El papel de la interculturalidad en la construcción de sujetos identitarios. La experiencia de la Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas en el municipio de Oxchuc (UNICH-Oxchuc)

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza el papel de la interculturalidad en la construcción de sujetos identitarios en la Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas (UNICH), en el municipio de Oxchuc. El artículo profundiza en cómo se abordan las relaciones de poder entre las culturas y las implicaciones que esto tiene en la construcción de sujetos identitarios y no de sujetos políticos articulados a los procesos sociales y culturales de la región, desde una perspectiva de reivindicación de sus derechos. La postura analítica está basada en la propuesta de interculturalidad crítica de Catherine Walsh. Metodológicamente, la investigación se posiciona en una perspectiva constructivista bajo el enfoque etnográfico. Uno de los hallazgos es que la interculturalidad es asumida como parte de una política oficial construida e instrumentada para su funcionamiento normativo, que responde a una lógica de reivindicación cultural y que se centra en la formación de jóvenes con una identidad reforzada en su lengua y en intercambios culturales funcionales al sistema.

This paper analyzes the role of interculturality in the construction of “identity subjects” at Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas in the municipality of Oxchuc. The study looks in-depth on how power relations between cultures are addressed and the implications it has in the preponderant construction of identity subjects rather than political subjects articulated to the social and cultural processes of the region. This study is presented from a perspective of vindication of their rights. The analytical perspective is based on Catherine Walsh’s proposal of critical interculturality. Methodologically, the research is positioned in a constructive perspective under the ethnographic approach. Among the findings, it can be mentioned that interculturality is assumed as a part of an oficial policy instructed and implemented for its normative functioning, which response to a logic of cultural vindication. This policy is focused on the training of young people with a reinforced identity in their language and functional cultural exchanges to the system.
