Tejiendo nuevas narrativas: los retos de hacer presente la voz de las tejedoras en los centros textiles en México y Perú

Abstract

Los tejidos tradicionales han sido una herramienta primordial para la construcción de la memoria grupal. El carácter colectivo de los tejidos evoca lo vivido y aprendido por generaciones de tejedoras herederas de un arte en resistencia. La investigación se concentró en los centros textiles surgidos a finales del siglo pasado en Perú, y posteriormente en México, como espacios culturales y museísticos donde algunas tejedoras se han integrado como parte de equipos interculturales. Su objetivo es reflexionar en cómo al hacerse presentes las voces de las tejedoras en lugares en los que históricamente han sido expulsadas, se cuestionan los modos en que se ha estudiado el arte popular, así como el creado por mujeres, a quienes no se acostumbra a ver como impartidoras de conocimiento fuera de su comunidad. Con un enfoque basado en la teoría latinoamericana del arte y un trabajo etnográfico que incluye testimonios y entrevistas a las mujeres que forman parte de los centros textiles en México y en Perú, este trabajo busca ser un aporte al reconocimiento y valoración de distintas formas de creación y aprendizaje que son parte de las sociedades diversas y plurales que integran América Latina.

Traditional textiles have been a primary tool in the construction of memory. The collective character of textiles evokes a knowledge that has been appreciated and learned by generations of weavers who inherited a resistance art. The research focuses on the textile centers that emerged at the end of the last century in Peru, and later in Mexico, as cultural and museum spaces where some weavers have been integrated as part of intercultural work teams. This article seeks to reflect on how when the voices of the weavers are taken in consideration in places where they have been historically ignored, the ways in which folk art and the art created by women has been studied are questioned, pondering on how weavers are not seen as imparters of knowledge outside their communities. With an approach based on Latin American art theory and an ethnographic work that includes testimonies and interviews with women who are part of textile centers in both Mexico and Peru, this research hopes to be a contribution on the recognition and appreciation of the different forms of creation that are part of the diverse and plural societies that integrate Latin America.
